i posted a picture with notes on it for possible camp locations.
i'm feeling we might be too big for blue light district, but i might be wrong.
16 + folks and a wonderful art project what are we, perhaps 50ft x 50ft at a minimum?
i'll talk with spyral when he gets back
--he's the one to give a better size estimate and ask if bld is indeed still interested to have crash land inn

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 12:07 PMCool map! Note that the street one block back from the esplanade is where they're going to be strictly forbidding early land grabs. Or at least that's what they said. -

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 1:14 PMuhmm, but who are they saving the land for?
i thought the evil land grabbing was to not have theme camps relocating from their assigned designations?
like what we almost did last year
this year we're just campers camping in land set aside for us
ahhhhh
they confuse me, but it's okay, cause i think we prefer not to be on anxious anyway -

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 1:19 PMI think it's partly so that theme camps don't expand or relocate before anyone else has a chance to put down stakes, but what I read (on the theme camp mail list) was simply that nobody can grab there early. They were very clear about that, though as usual who knows what happens when we get out there. In any case, I agree that we'd prefer to be at least one more street back. -

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Thu, August 10, 2006 - 8:47 PMFWIW, this is the mail I got:
Folks, we have a new element to the Early Arrival protocol this year:
if you're getting there before Monday at 12:01am, for training or for
setup, please read and understand this message!
Land grabbing, or carving out space for your later arriving friends,
has been against policy for several years now. This year, the Camp
Placement folks are bringing a new detail to the mix: Early Arrival
requires Early Placement.
When you get to Black Rock City, you will NOT be allowed to just set
up camp wherever you wish. EVERYONE who arrives before 12:01am on
Monday will need to contact Placement on the radio to work out where
you will be camping: you will, in effect, be treated as an early-
arriving theme camp, and mapped as such.
You are strongly discouraged from setting up your theme camp
accoutrements when you arrive: you are there early because you are
there to work on infrastructure, not on your personal camp; you're
free to work on your personal camp when every other participant can,
after 12:01am on Monday.
If you go ahead and set up camp without consulting with Placement,
you will very likely be told to move your camp.
They're serious about this, folks... please factor this into your plans!

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Thu, August 10, 2006 - 9:30 PMWeird...so if you aren't a theme camp, but you have reason to be there early, then.....what? You don't get to choose where you camp? -

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Fri, August 11, 2006 - 1:35 PMCan you believe it? I'm not worried. I know in the past that I've (we) have had problems concerning placement. Most of this was due to me not working with the Placement people. One of my complaints about not letting me lang grab was that many others would take that piece of land anyway. It seems they have caught on to that and are trying to make if fair for those who can't come early. I think I just have to talk to Frog when I get there. I should have always talked with them instead of trying to do end runs around them.

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Mon, August 14, 2006 - 12:27 PMI've talked with Davor about Placement in the BLD.
He's trying to get us Frontage property 75 x 75.
He may be able to get us more. Getting a corner or a street facing the Man was too much to ask. However, camping anywhere in the BLD will give us good traffic and great neighbors.

Re: 2006 our corner of burning man
Wed, August 9, 2006 - 6:13 PMAccording to the all ranger mail I get, they intend to be very serious about enforcing it, just like they are about early arrivals now. I've been deleting all that mail but I can probably dig some up if you want specifics.
